About: Photography for Social Change
Photography for Social Change is a global community that is focused on ethical, visual storytelling. The community is comprised of photography enthusiasts and professionals around the world who are passionate about using their passion for photography as a force for good.
Our members are focused on continuously improving their photography skills and expanding their knowledge of the social issues they are passionate about serving and documenting.
They are focused on developing strong relationships with nonprofit organizations that align with their values. They want to learn how to create compelling photo narratives that raise awareness and inspire change for those causes.
They are busy creating a profound sense of purpose in their life, while making a real difference in the world.
The goal of our organization is to teach, guide, and mentor our members to help tell the stories that need to be told.
About: Our Founder
John D. Russell is a professional photographer based in Redondo Beach, CA. He is a best selling author and photography adventure guide.
His love for photography began in the darkroom in 1991. He has been shooting professionally since 2006. His work has taken him to over 33 countries and he's worked with nonprofits around the globe.
Due to his experience working and shooting with nonprofits, in 2018, the Los Angeles Center of Photography hired John to create a curriculum and teach a 6-month course that focused on Social Justice Photography.
Wanting to reach more photographers and make an even bigger impact, John created www.photographyforsocialchange.com in 2023.
He resides with his girlfriend and their 14 year old Shih Tzu puppy, Penni, in Redondo Beach, CA.
